About 5 years ago I started to eliminate dairy out of my diet.

Thank God!

I didn’t know, like many Americans that I was allergic to conventional pasteurized milk.

It wasn’t even really that noticeable most of the year but twice a year I would get a nasty sinus infection. I mean Nasty… my docs at the time said I just had bad allergies. I felt like I had a doctor for every allergin in the world and they all wanted to give me something different. When I would leave… I had a bag of 362 different scrips… it was like tricker treatin’ at the when I would leave the office. 

I had a friend that was into Raw Food at the time introduce me to the raw amazing power of my favorite nut… the almond.

Who doesn’t love Almonds?  Honey glazed almonds, roasted almonds, chilli pepper almonds, candied almonds and my personal favorite an almond covered up in a delicious date… I thought I was the poster boy for healthy eating…I was about 25 pounds over weight and had a gut from college. 

These were the wrong ways to prepare the awesome almond. 

I was eating almonds for taste and not the multitudes of benefits.
 

And…I didn’t even know the easiest way to prepare them…Almond Milk!

Almond milk provides excellent sources of protein, fiber, vitamin E, zinc, iron, selenium, magnesium, and calcium. Almonds have vitamin-like oils called essential fatty acids. Essential fatty acids are required for a healthy nervous system, anti-inflammatory effects, hormone balance and cell structure.

Plain almond milk without added sugars or flavoring contains 60 calories per each 8 oz serving size. This option works well for people looking to lose or maintain weight.

The low caloric content of almond milk causes less of an impact on our totally daily consumption of food calories. Some milk varieties contain more sugars than the cereal that they get combined with.

Almond milk contains no cholesterol and only 5 mg of sodium per serving. Consuming foods low in sodium and cholesterol help us to maintain better heart health and normal blood pressure.

Without cholesterol, almond milk also decreases our chances of gaining bad cholesterol levels, all while increasing the good cholesterol levels. Almond milk also contains 150 mg of potassium in every serving. This mineral works to promote healthy blood pressure.

My personal favorite. It’s just so good for you…loaded with chlorophyl, magnesium and zinc and a whole host of other phytonutrients. 

You’ve probably seen a lot of people turning towards green juice drinks recently. I started my green juice/drink career about 5 years ago. I had an older gentlemen present a little gift to me. (It looked like a glass of swamp water.) I’ve always had a fear of swamps, so this was a little bit awkward for me. That day, I decided to drink my fear and slam this giant glass of gobblie goop. (Green Juice)  

Let’s just say I’m glad I did. I felt like the AMAZING after chuggin’ this thing. My body was so nutrient deprived, it soaked up every last drop of the green juice madness and I became the HULK. I know, it’s a cartoon pic… the real pic is too graphic for your young virgin eyes.

The term green juice, is meant to describe any juice – that is in fact some shade of the color green. Green juice may be a combination of fruit and veggies or it may be 100% veggies. Green Juice ingredients may be 100% crisp green, or a rainbow of colors. I’m a personal fan of using all greens.

Mindset Monday – Burn The Ships…

Where are you in your life and what ships do you need and what to burn? Here are five things I want to

share with you. I also want you know what my ships were and how I was able to “burn” them. 

 

I want to get a little personal with you, on this mindset Monday if that’s okay.

 

So a little over a year and half ago… I was living in Tampa fl, and everything seemed to be going right, I was making a great living, I had freedom of time and my relationships where awesome.

 

There was only one thing missing…

 

I didn’t feel like I was growing as a person. This is one of the most important things we can do in this life experience. We are constantly growing and if we are not, we are dying.

 

So there I was…

 

I felt stuck, stagnate, and I felt like I was just simply settling.

 

Being 29 at the time, I knew I had to do something quick, and an old story came to my mind.

 

It was the story of Hernando Cortes…

 

Captain Cortes and a small army left Cuba and set out to conquer Central America. Cortes was going to accomplish his goals, no matter the consequences. The myth states that once Cortes’ troops landed in what is now Mexico, he ordered the ships destroyed by fire.

 

In burning his ships, Cortes took away all options to retreat and, I am sure, got the full buy-in from his troops to make it a successful campaign. They had no choice. Either drown in the sea or conquer this new world.

 

Psychologically what do you think this did to the army? They knew that they could not retreat… do you think they raised their performance up a little…

 

Probably, right? Well they ended up losing anyway…

it’s still a good story…

 

‘You are gullible” they won stupid.

 

So how did I burn my boats in FL and manage to expand as a person in Florida? I had to leave it all behind.

 

Five Keys to Burning the Boats

 

1) Create a “have to” goal. One that will glow white hot within you. Then, burn all the other boats. A terrific relationship with your spouse, a great business, a new venture that changes lives, etc. Having a dynamic visual goal is vital and getting it down on paper is critical.

 

2) Action is key so act as if success is certain. By burning your boats, you will tap into your faith and create a laser-like clarity that brings everything into distinct focus. Your next steps will just flow since they will be so obvious.

 

3) Enlist the help of others. Nothing truly significant in life happens without others help. God created us to do things together. An individual with a burnt boat is nothing more than a castaway so tap into others wisdom and energy and be open to the great unseen forces of God as well.

 

4) Trust your “higher mind” to formulate connections that you never saw before. By burning your boats, you are simply freeing yourself to do something that you have been most likely been preventing yourself from doing all along.

 

5) Unconventional success calls for unconventional approaches. We all have hard-wired habits and ways of doing things in our life that, in time, can actually become roadblocks to success. Try completely new, unfamiliar approaches and see what happens. Charts and maps are terrific but, quite often, incredible journeys start by someone acting on one seemingly crazy and paradoxical hunch.

If you’re fasting – or are thinking about starting a fast – you’re probably focusing on what you’re going to lose. As in weight.

 

Inches.  

 

Pants sizes.

 

But what about what you could gain?

You might not even be aware of it, but when you put your body through a strategic caloric deficit – like you do with a program like the Alpha Reset – you also prime it for a muscle-building program that can leave you ripped. Quick.

 

Here’s why.

 

After it’s been in a strategic caloric deficit, your body becomes extremely insulin sensitive, ready to release a surge of anabolic hormones when the time comes for an aggressive caloric surplus. The result?

This has a very powerful energy to it. People cannot help but be attracted to you when you are …..wait for it…..yourself.

You are so unique.

So unique.

There is no one like you on the planet. First off the obvious… No one looks like you. Unless you have an identical twin. For me, that’s just to much sexy-ness to even think about. I think the world would implode.

Second, and this is the most important. No one has had an identical life experience.

Everything you have been through has prepared you, molded you for what you are going to achieve in this life. (this very moment)

Think about all of the hard times and good times you’ve amassed and how every step along the way has prepared you for where you are right now.

ANYONE can be like someone else.

But YOU are a true original. 

Don’t place yourself in a hole with squares, circles, and triangles…create your own shape!

It’s ok, I didn’t at first either. Here are three things you can do immediately to help put you in the “You Zone.”

 

  • Meditation: I do a 10-20 minute meditation everyday asking for guidance in this department. I ask the divine source to place people, places in things in my life that will allow me to fulfill my purpose. My Authentic Purpose.

  • Stop hanging around people that are not you. Many times we get suckered into chillin’ out with some peeps that are not on the same level as us. In other words we settle. Maybe you are bored, tired, or there is no one else. These are all lies designed to help you sleep better at night. It’s time to wake up!  You are the average of your 5 best friends. If 3 of your friends are not radically authentic and have no clue who they even are… it’s time to go friend shopping. You do not need this in your experience. No one ever said life was easy but you need to be around people that are in alignment with you and can help you keep your eye on the prize.

  • Say NO: Many people I come in contact with are people pleasers. They will do whatever anyone asks them to do and if they can’t for some reason they feel bad. This reeks of in-authenticity. It’s a sign of weakness. People will respect you more if you say “no” once in a while. I encourage you, if you are a people pleaser to give that up. For one month, anytime someone asks you for something I want you to say N-O.

It’s strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, power lifting, kettle bell training, plyometrics, rowing, and medicine ball training.

Pretty intense huh? If you think the explanation was a mouthful. You should try one of these workouts. I challenged Drew, so now I challenge you. It does not matter what shape you are in, your age, or gender. (There is a 65 year old client at the crossfit I go to…I’m sure she’s in way better shape than 75% of women under 30 J)

 

I have been a Crossfitter for nearly a year. It changed my life. I have always been athletically inclined, so I thought I could rock it on day one. My first day, my good friend and trainer Casey Langdon slammed my ego right into the ground. I thought I had this workout in the bag, little did I know I was in for a treat as well as a life changer.

So why do I advocate crossfit so much?

Crossfit is a popular training style built around a “Workout of the Day” (WOD), published daily on the Crossfit site, and tends to be different everyday.  Let’s look at an example below.

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:

225 pound Deadlift, 6 reps

7 Burpee pull-ups

10 Kettlebell swings

Run 200 meters

 

All in that little time you just worked $h!t out of your body. No need for all those Ab workouts, your core just thanked you after a workout like that

So what’s the new skinny? WEIGHTLIFTING! Yes I said it

 

Weightlifting is a very new experience for so many women in our gym that I totally understand your hesitation and fear of doing it. No one in any important position is encouraging young female athletes to lift weights, because of the myths around weightlifting. Weightlifting, CrossFit and strength training are essential parts of any person’s life.

Yes, my ladies weightlifting is important to you too!!

Women are built to be athletes, just the same as any human, and that’s the fundamental starting point for empowering yourself and realizing your vision of why you came to Crossfit in the first place.

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.

 

I hope you are having an amazing week filled with love and blessings. I know I am. Just knowing that I have much to be grateful from the simple things of waking up and moving my toes, to smelling a wonderful cup of coffee in the morning….or better yet simply BEING! 

 

 

A Kiss Of Gratitude


 

I know it’s really hard to think about positive and blessed things in our lives when we have a million things to do in a day.
 

Hey It happens to me too! You’re not alone! Let’s turn things around by doing some simple things together.
 

Many days, I try to humble myself and hold a 2-minute gratitude session. I simply sit or kneel, with no distractions, close my eyes, and think about what I’m grateful for and who I’m grateful for.
 

When I do have those moments , when I feel so flustered and impatient. I close my eyes and start my humbling process. Why should that be? Why should the simple
act of thinking about who and what I’m grateful for make such a big difference in my life? Here’s a couple good turning points it does for me.
 

  • It reminds me of the positive things in my life
  • It reminds me of what’s important:
  • It turns bad things into goo things:
  • It reminds you to thank others
